The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service responded to reports of a fire at Carisbrooke Castle on the outskirts of Newport earlier this morning (Friday), but the incident wasn’t as first feared.
It was reported at around 08:30 that smoke could be seen coming from the historic property high up on the hill overlooking Carisbrooke.
Multiple fire appliances, the Aerial Ladder Platform and the Incident Command Unit were mobilised to the scene, but it soon became clear that the incident was a false alarm.
It has been confirmed that steam coming from a boiler is to blame for the alert.
Crews from Newport, East Cowes, Cowes and Ryde have now stood down and returned to station.

What’s Charlie been up to?
Is this the first time the boiler has been used then??..
