St Catherine’s Special School in Ventnor is appealing for help to raise £10,000 for its chapel fundraising campaign to support students with speech, language and communication needs.
The chapel has long been a special place at St Catherine’s, acting as the hub for school celebrations and as a space for reflection and contemplation. The school hopes to improve the chapel while retaining its original features to better serve its students.
Plans include replacing the current pews with more comfortable seating suited to students’ needs, installing a sound loop for students with hearing impairments, restoring the chapel by cleaning the stained glass windows and redecorating floors and walls.
St Catherine’s has said:
“Our chapel is a cherished space that brings our community together. We want to ensure it remains welcoming and accessible to every student.”
St Catherine’s has been part of the Ventnor community for nearly 150 years, first as a home for children with respiratory conditions, and since 1983 as the specialist school it is today.
