Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight has received a £1,000 donation from members of Yarborough Lodge No. 551 in Ventnor, providing a significant boost to the grassroots organisation supporting people with learning disabilities.
The lodge, which has been part of the Isle of Wight community for nearly 180 years, has pledged the funds to help expand opportunities for athletes across the Island.
The £1,000 donation will be used to invest in new equipment, including a table tennis table, as well as support the growth of programmes aimed at reaching more individuals with learning disabilities. It will also contribute towards securing suitable venues to ensure participants have safe and consistent places to take part in activities.
A spokesperson for Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight has said:
“This incredible £1,000 contribution from Yarborough Lodge No. 551 is a testament to the power of community.
“It provides the stability and resources we need to ensure no one is left on the sidelines. We cannot thank them enough for believing in our mission.”
Yarborough Lodge No. 551, based in the seaside town of Ventnor, has a long-standing history on the Isle of Wight and continues to support local causes through charitable giving.
Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight says the donation will help champion inclusion, physical health and social engagement, ensuring more people are able to benefit from sport regardless of ability.
