Another 10 people across the Isle of Wight have tested positive for COVID-19, with 9 new cases registered in a single day.
Latest data from Public Health England shows that a total of 522 people have contracted the virus since the start of the pandemic.
89 people have died from the coronavirus on the Island, with 1 person currently being treated in hospital. The average age of those who have died from COVID-19 on the Island is 85.
45 cases have been confirmed locally since 1st October.
Here we go … Manchester are now refusing to accept total lockdown – pity we can’t let them know we don’t want them here – particularly not in their coach loads.

Hospitals are empty!!. You speak in that tone to my daughter in law in the Midlands. The nurses are so stretched and tired, depressed and fed up to back teeth of your type of attitude. Wouldn’t anyone in a tier 3 area want to come for a break in an area without restrictions? Why hasn’t the tourist board picked up on this opportunity to promote the Isle of Wight? If they get together with Test and Trace they could bring over coaches of people with symptoms and have a stop at the testing centre on the way.

I saw a mainland coach go past me at the weekend, nearly every seat taken. So….. no social distancing on there. Mainland coach companies and local hoteliers are rubbing their hands with glee and seeing £ signs. Local Buses also pass me – I view the top floor. Nearly every one has people not wearing their masks – why isn’t the driver refusing to take them?
I expect the drivers have been instructed to not challenge anyone, for fear of offending. I’m going to suggest to Southern Vectis that they put “bus marshals” on their vehicles, like they do on U.S. planes. What do you think?

The driver of buses and coaches should make it perfectly clear to all passengers getting on, that masks must remain on for the entire time the passengers are on the vehicle. Failure will result in them being extracted!!!!!! As usual, too soft approach so people get away with it. If the Police happen to see many passengers on a bus or coach, they should stop it and board the vehicle and enquire why so many are not wearing face coverings.

Plenty of information already advising of this. Other boarding passengers need to have the minerals to challenge non-mask wearers as well as the driver. If they are exempt, fine. If we do what you suggest be prepared for bus journeys that take hours.
This crisis has highlighted the fact some people are hugely selfish, they will have their holiday no matter what. They will say we want to help the lsland economy, that is absolute rubbish, they are only thinking about themselves.
Got nothing to do with coach trips, if it was the hotel would be in quarantine. The youngsters are now are not interested in protecting themselves. So it is now up to the old and sick to stay at home and let herd immunity take control, it is now all about only the strong will survive,

You seem to be the only one still barking on about herd immunity. Everybody else has seen the proof that you can get it more than once.
Ron, herd immunity in the way you suggest it should be applied won’t work. Impossible to protect the vulnerable during it and a death sentence for those at greatest risk. If not death there will be high levels of morbidity that our health service cannot deal with. The only way to work towards herd immunity is through a vaccine, but i doubt you are the type of person to believe in them.
Just put us on full lockdown already! Simple as that really. If people can’t follow simple rules then they are just selfish, stupid morons. Accept that this IS the new normal and just get over it. This should be treated as a reset button because this country is too obessed with wealth, status and vanity. Irrespective of the number of cases in a given area, banning all non-essential travel would be a prudent measure.
I appreciate everyone’s views and the right to have them, but please come in with a open mind, the numbers we are receiving on the island in part are being bumped up by students in different area’s over the uk that still registered on the island, I believe unless im mistaken we currently have one case in St Mary’s. With out tourism with coach tours the island will go bust and there will be no Jobs when all the hotels and attractions go bust. So simply take the correct precautions when out and it won’t affect you!!!! Stop Scaremongering people with your ill advised unfounded conjecture.
I work in the hospitality industry and we cannot make people were masks.We get it all the time from group’s from all over the country .
We do try but we cannot enforce it.

A friend of mine with an elderly mother had been trying for 8 days to get his mum checked out. He had been told that he needs to get her to Portsmouth …….. not allowed to use public transport. So why are North islanders allowed across the Solent. And why can’t the cricket ground testing facility be used by Islanders!
There should be Covid Marshalls or better still police on the Ferry Ports in Southampton, Portsmouth, and Lymington checking where people have come from and turning back any from new Tier 3 Level area’s.
We don’t have the NHS facilities to cope with a major outbreak and if it happens then god help us all
