TV presenter Anne Robinson, best known for presenting the Weakest Link, has declared that ‘some people would do anything to get out of going to the Isle of Wight’.
The sometimes controversial 76-year-old made the statement on an episode of Channel 4’s Countdown, of which she is the new host. Robinson is well-known for making snide comments about people and places after her 13 series of the quiz show The Weakest Link where she regularly picked on contestants about everything from their weight to their career paths.
Speaking on Monday’s show, shots were fired towards the Island with Anne quipping:
“Today marks the sinking of the Mary Rose… Some people will do anything to get out of going to the Isle of Wight.”
Later on, she also took aim at Norfolk after contestant Sue said she enjoyed visiting Antarctica. Anne went on to compare it to Sue’s home county of Norfolk, calling it ‘cold and desolate’.
Robinson took over the hot seat from former host Nick Hewer who left the program earlier this year and has already drawn mixed reviews and divided opinions due to her striking comments.
Anne Robinson = no longer relevant. Best ignored.

Totally the wrong choice of host for that programme. I hear Trevor McDonald is doing a one off for that show soon. Let’s hope they decide to keep him because Anne is ruining the show!

Some people will do almost anything to stay looking young too, even if it’s not working.
I used to love watching Countdown but since she took over it has spoilt the whole programme.
I do hope that means that she won’t be coming here!
she’s just plain rude….always has been, she’s not funny, cant abide the woman.
Nearly everytime the IW gets a mention on anything on the media, it’s nearly always as some sort of joke, like they really make fun of the place. I don’t know why it’s considered so comical, it’s just another island like there are many dotted about. I don’t recall any other island anywhere being seen as such a place to make fun of . i’d like to know who or what started it all off in the first place.
What about the island of Ireland then?

I had the Pleasure (or not) of attending one of her Weakest Link programmes years ago at Pinewood Studios and actually she came across as a really nice person sorry to say!! She often uses these things to wind everyone up on screen! Off screen she was very approachable and friendly. But I agree if it was that bad why do we have heaps of Holiday Makers! They even make videos on Youtube saying “Staycation go to the the Isle of Wight.” Oh and today and tomorrow we have another TV crew vistiing for “This Morning” programme…yes everyone wants to visit now!!

Can’t stand her, but she has a point, look at the crime levels, lack of infrastructure, ferry prices, rip off attractions.
