UPDATED: An emergency road closure has been put in place between Rookley and Niton this evening (Wednesday) as a result of a small landslide.
A section of high bank running alongside the carriageway near to The Chequers Inn has collapsed, resulting in the partial blockage of Niton Road.
Motorists are being diverted locally via Rookley and Godshill – although Chequers Inn Road remains open.
The main road is expected to remain closed for several hours whilst debris is cleared.
UPDATE THURSDAY – Niton Road has now re-opened in both directions following the successful clearance of debris.
