UPDATED: Firefighters from Newport are in attendance at Newport Harbour this morning (Thursday) where a boat has begun to sink.
Two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are currently on scene and working to assist a couple, who are said to be safe and well.
The service were called to the scene shortly after 07:30.
HM Coastguard have also been tasked to the incident, which has occurred near to Jubilee Stores.
UPDATE @ 08:44 – A 63m wooden trawler, which is now used as a house boat, has become partially submerged on the River Medina.
It is thought that a pumping system failed overnight, leading to the vessel flooding through a damaged panel as the tide came in. Thankfully the male and female occupants have evacuated their home safely.
Fire crews are pumping water out of the vessel, however efforts are being hindered by the high tide.
Newport Coastguard Incident Response Team are on scene almgside the Newport Harbour Master.
UPDATE @ 09:00 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are due to hand salvage operations over to the Newport Harbour Master within the next hour or so, having stabilised the vessel and ensured the safety of the occupants.
The British Red Cross’ Emergency and Fire Support vehicle has been requested to attend the dockside to provide support the the elderly occupants of the houseboat whilst operations continue.
One appliance has now stood down from the incident.
