UPDATED: A large sinkhole has led to the closure of Queens Road in Ryde this morning (Monday), causing traffic delays in the town.
Whilst Island Roads were undertaking resurfacing of the road between Pelhurst Road and West Street overnight, a sinkhole approximately 4ft deep opened up outside the entrance to Ryde School, forcing the prolonged closure of the main road.
Queens Road, which was due to reopen by 06:00, is to remain closed for today whilst investigations and repairs are carried out.
Southern Vectis buses will continue on diversion via Argyl Street with Routes 4, 9 and 37 subject to heavy delays of approx 15 minutes.
UPDATE @ 16:35 – Island Roads are excavating and filling the void this afternoon with hopes that this can be completed in time to allow resurfacing works to resume overnight.
It is anticipated that the road will be re-opened to traffic at 06:00 tomorrow morning (Wednesday).
