On the eve of Mothering Sunday, Shanklin Town Brass Band held a fundraising concert in aid of the YMCA Mother and Baby Unit.
The Community Band, aimed at those over 50, joined the Youth Band at Shanklin United Reformed Church. Conducted by Malcolm Lewis, they regaled the audience with performances as varied as Bandstand Boogie, Abide With Me and The Muppets.
To avoid any accusations of bias, the concert opened with Portsmouth Chimes and Marching Saints. During the evening, around £600 was raised.
Coordinator, Jo McGrath, talked of the supported housing offered to young mums and their babies, when they do not have a safe place to stay:
“Each member is given access to mental health support, life skills and parenting advice to help them move into their own accommodation and live happy, healthy lives.”
Well done to everyone involved.
