A Ryde man has been jailed for 12 months after sexually assaulting a lone teenager whilst she sat waiting for a train.
Barnaby Money, 46, of East Hill Road, approached the girl as she waited for a train at Cosham, near Portsmouth, in February 2025.
A bystander became concerned after noticing Money sitting uncomfortably close to the teenager on a bench at the train station. He then sexually assaulted the lone girl.
Police were called and arrived within moments, locating Money still at the scene sat next to his victim.
Money was arrested but attempted to feign innocence, but following a thorough investigation by the British Transport Police, the evidence against him was overwhelming.
He was later charged in connection with the incident and has now been sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court.
Judge Daniel Sawyer handed Barnaby Money a 12-month prison sentence and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.
Detective Constable Phil James, of British Transport Police, has said:
“Money is a dangerous sexual predator who preyed on a lone teenage girl and attacked her as she waited for a train. His behaviour was deplorable and has caused a young woman severe trauma.
“I commend her bravery in supporting our investigation, as well as the bystander who quickly called the police so Money could be arrested at the scene. Thanks to them, Money is now behind bars and no longer a danger to women.
“If you experience or witness a sexual offence on-board a train or at a station, I urge you to report it to us by texting 61016. We take all reports seriously and will always do everything in our power to bring offenders like Money to justice.”
Island Echo previously reported on Money back in May last year, when he was banned from driving for 2 years after taking his partner’s new Volvo while under the influence of alcohol. He also has a previous conviction for drink driving dating back to 2009.
Right so if he’s a dangerous sexual predator how come his sentence is pathetic?? The justice system needs looking into? Disgusting thing must be laughing right now, he will continue to do this until he is actually stopped?
