Fire crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at the scene near to Bowcombe Business Park, where one person is reported to be trapped.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene alongside the two fire appliances from Newport, who are working to free at least one person from inside a silver car. Emergency crews were called to the scene at 13:30.
According to eye witnesses, the collision occurred when a car went to overtake a cyclist on a bend between Bowcombe Business Park and Cheverton Farm. The female cyclist has thrown from her push bike and is believed to be suffering from leg injuries.
Police have closed the B3323 road from the junction with Carisbrooke High Street to Shorwell village incorporating Clatterford Road, Bowcombe Road and Cheverton Shute.
Southern Vectis Route 12 buses will divert via Middle Road to Brook and then from Brook will head onto Brighstone before turning onto Military Road.
UPDATE @ 14:53 – One female has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance this afternoon.
UPDATE @ 16:10 – A woman who was freed from a vehicle by firefighters has been flown to Southampton General Hospital by helicopter this afternoon, although her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
