A serious road traffic collision at Wootton Bridge has led to the closure of the main road between Ryde and Newport tonight.
Police have cordoned off a large section of the High Street as a result of what is thought to be a car vs pedestrian collision involving a black Renault Scenic.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident, between the junctions of Mill Square and New Road, at around 23:00.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilised at least 2 ambulances and an operational commander in response, with dozens of Police officers also descending on the area.
It is thought the casualty has been rushed to hospital for further treatment and assessment, with Police awaiting an update from medics as to the severity of the situation.
Road closures are in place between Firestone Copse Road and Mary Rose Avenue, with inner cordons erected at Mill Square, Lakeside Park Access Road and New Road.
Southern Vectis Route 9 buses are diverting via The Downs and Briddlesford Road in both directions.
UPDATE @ 06:25 – The road has now fully reopened in both directions following the conclusion of overnight investigations.
Southern Vectis buses are expected to resume a normal route imminently.
Hope the casualty is OK.
but the revealing item of that report is that we have at least “24” police officers available to attend. Things are looking up.
