Police have cordoned off part of the Esplanade at Ryde following what is understood to be a serious assault overnight.
It was shortly before 00:30 this morning (Friday) that emergency services responded to reports of an incident outside Jhoots Pharmacy.
Island Echo understands officers arrived to find a male with serious injuries lying on the floor.
A small puddle of blood – and the remains of a late night takeaway – is evident on the kerb edge.
The casualty was takne to St Mary’s Hospital by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
A section of pavement between the junctions of Dover Street and George Street has been sealed off as investigations into the incident get underway.
Access to Jhoots Pharmacy is likely to be impeded today.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement
UPDATE @ 16:51 – Police have confirmed that a man in his 20s was assaulted.
