The Sea Gels Shanty Band brought music and cheer to Shanklin, Godshill and Ryde on Sunday as they toured the Isle of Wight in a vintage open-top bus to raise funds for the Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum.
Travelling aboard bus No. 4643, the band delighted locals and visitors alike with impromptu performances at each stop, filling the air with sea shanties and encouraging crowds to sing along.
The day was organised in support of the Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum, which has recently been recovering from a break-in. The Sea Gels have said they hope their donation will help the museum continue its important work preserving the island’s transport heritage.
A spokesperson for the band said they were ‘overwhelmed by the community’s support and the warm welcome at every stop’.
The Sea Gels Shanty Band will next be performing at a Newchurch Male Voice Choir concert at the Bus and Coach Museum on Sunday 24th August.
It was an excellent day, a great idea for a regular
summer event.
