22 restaurants, cafes and shops on the Isle of Wight were awarded a 5 ‘very good’ food hygiene rating by the Isle of Wight Council at the tail end of 2022 – but there are still so many establishments that are yet to be inspected.
The latest rankings, issued in November and December, have recently been released and showcase the best and the worst food hygiene standards across the Island.
Isle of Wight Council environmental health inspectors visit food-producing and selling businesses, seeing how they match up to government-set standards. They are rated on a scale, produced by the Foods Standards Agency, ranging from 0 ‘Urgent Improvement Necessary’ to 5 ‘Very Good’.
They are judged on how clean the establishment is, what conditions are like, how hygienic the food handling is and the food safety management procedures in place.
However, as reported by Island Echo earlier this week, a number of establishments across the Isle of Wight (108 at the last count) are still waiting for an inspection by Environmental Health officials. The Council says that inspections haven’t taken place at their usual rate as a result of a COVID-19 backlog.
Here are the scores on the doors for the latest round of businesses to be inspected …
