Police, fire and ambulance crews are responding to a road traffic collision at Branstone Cross this lunchtime (Saturday).
The incident has occurred on Newport Road at Apse Heath at the junctions of Winford Road and Princelett Shute.
Traffic is building in the area and as a result Motorists are advised to divert while emergency services deal with the incident.
UPDATE @ 12:55 – 2 cars have been involved in the crash – a yellow Citroen DS3 and a silver Seat Mii.
The incident isn’t as serious as first feared, with all occupants out of the vehicle. As a result, fire crews have now stood down.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance and checking over those involved.
The main Sandown to Newport Road remains open in both directions but there are delays in the area. Access is blocked for vehicles travelling from Newchurch to Branstone Cross.
UPDATE – The scene has now been cleared with both vehicles recovered.

Heavy rain + Idiot driving = Crash. Drive carefully please if you are out in rain or if the roads are flooded or very wet.
+ terrible junction
More brilliant drivers !!
Medical episode? Flooded road? Tyre blow out?
*I* hope that no one has been injured.
Probably blame the street furniture again.
A spokes-item for Traffic Lights told IE, “Lamp-posts are bringing the whole Street Furniture family into disrepute with their impetuous behavior. These young, Jack-the-LED streetlights don’t have the poise and dignity of the OLD SOD-ium vapour lamps and need to learn restraint.”
Meanwhile, A Keep-Left sign that witnessed the incident felt it was all a load of bollards.
We don’t have street lights at branstone cross, we don’t have pavements either !!
Great bit of comedic writing there, Eve. You’ve certainly thrown some light into the darker areas of lamppost behaviour . . . I can see it much clearer now!
I’m not surprised the DS3 crashed. If you look at the photo it has a front tyre bent all out of shape. It is ridiculous that they managed to drive at all. How it got through an MOT I’ll never know…
The yellow wasp style car, has no engine, what did they do, peddle it like the flintstones?
The flintstones are much better drivers than most island drivers…
Are you for real
No
I do hope no one is injured, but must admit, the standard of driving is getting worse.
This morning a silver Merc A1 went through the pedestrian lights on Coppins Bridge, and then at the roundabout near KFC, it wasn’t in either lane, went round the outside, then cut back across and towards M&S, no indications at all.
At the lights it was in the righthand lane to go towards the supermarket entrances, then indicated left and pulled over and roared off towards Trafalgar Road. Mind you, it also had a brake light not working!
Driving back from the supermarkets, i stopped at traffic lights to go onto Coppins bridge by Cineworld, left lane, and a lorry went straight through the red, then the red by the junction with the High St and northbound on Medina Way. All between 09:30 and 10:30hrs this morning.
2 cars yest…2 today.standard iow driving
Wait until Ryde is concreted over and twinned with Chavsville.
Plenty more cars, drunk and drugged drivers, most on tax credits, with child seats filled with the next batch of clones to ensure future ruination of this once pleasant Isle.
Watch, and see.
Vote this greedy council OUT
6 cars including the 4 on medina way and it’s just gone 5 pm
Is it dodgems day on the isle of white today?
Isle of White? Where’s that?
might have slipped on some pickle

Lisa, if like most, likely chawing something. Maybe they got it going again, WD40 is marvellous in the wet for starting engines.
