UPDATED: Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat has launched to rescue at least 1 person at Luccombe this evening (Friday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team have joined the independent lifeboat in the search at the remote location between Shanklin and Ventnor.
The lifeboat hit the water at around 17:50 before proceeding to Luccombe Bay at a speed of 31 knots.
The area is notoriously rocky and often catches explorers and walkers out with a fast incoming tide.
UPDATE @ 20:23 – 2 people have been successfully rescued and transferred to Sandown Lifeboat with assistance from Coastguard Rescue Officers.
The man and woman have both been taken to Sandown Lifeboat Station after more than 2 hours stuck at Luccombe.
Island Echo understands the woman has sustained a leg injury. She is expected to attend St Mary’s Hospital.
The incident has now been brought to a close.
