A new flood warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight overnight, with areas such as Sandown, Brading and Bembridge now expected to be hit by flooding from the Eastern Yar.
The Environment Agency has issued the warning as homes and businesses are expected to by affected in Sandown, Yaverland, Yarbridge, Brading and Bembridge (Embankment Road area).
Immediate action is required. Locals are being urged to take action to protect themselves and their property by activating any flood protection measures. Those near the Eastern Yar are being told to monitor local weather and river conditions.
A flood warning has been in place for the Eastern Yar already this week, for areas from Whitwell to Sandown. However, with river levels high and Morton Common underwater, the decision has been taken to extend the warning to cover the entire Eastern Yar area, replacing the previous flood alert.
Late last night the Environment Agency issued a flood alert for the Isle of Wight coast. Higher than normal tides this weekend are expected to cause some issues in coastal areas, adding to the flooding being experienced across the Island.

My back garden is already flooded and its quite high and creeping towards the house, what would really help if the sluice gates were open at Bembridge to let some of this water out during low tides.
Contact the Environment Agency and ask them why this is not being done.
I’m guessing the fact they’ve lost over half of their funding since 2010 isn’t helping.
Probably because they have never been much use.
I already have and still nothing has be done.
Yea they have loads of money they need to spend some soon
Ring 111 and wait in a never answering queue
Lol
Jordan and the environment agency head honchos are all sat at home drinking whiskey and whipping the servant for more, so nobody will get much help, as per usual.
Isle of Wight voted for Environmental Agency cuts. Well. Our MP did and has.
A near 60% cut in real terms since 2010. Most gone from the very first round of austerity as well.
The government have been more focused with filling the EA with mandarins that will argue to allow water firms to dump more raw sewage than they have been using it as a tool to protect and prepare the UK.
That photo must have been taken years ago. Either that or the owner of that Jaguar is in hot water.
Haha, someone’s been caught out one way or another!
What Idiot ever allowed homes to be built near the Railway Bridge in Sandown
on the old Caravan park ? at the start of Perowne Way, by the River!!
Not local, as they would know it was the old flood plains.
I have to agree with you.
Building Homes on the Island should be Stopped!
The Island is falling apart, just wait for the landfalls to follow.
There are a few reasons that the park partly floods. One being the river that is feeding the lake on Sandown sea front, next to Browns Golf Club. Parts of the ‘sheet piles’ were never put in, so the river comes up through the ground. Unfortunately no one will own up to owning that part of the river as it’s not part of the main River.
