Aerovolt are due to install their smart charging network at Sandown and 5 other Solent region airports next month.
With exclusive airside smart charging operations and access to electric aircraft, the system will be the World’s first public smart charging network for aviation.
Initially with 6 sites at Sandown, Lee-on-Solent, Shoreham, Lydd, Bournemouth and Kittyhawk, a further 18 sites across the UK are confirmed to be installed in the next 18 months.
The Aerovolt system is unique to anything currently offered in the automotive sector. Developed in house, ‘Squadron’ is an aviation specific software management system. With the ability to book charging slots across the network, real time charger usage and status updates, load balancing and seamless communication for all aircraft using the network.
This is an exciting development in the aviation sector. Never before has a pilot been able to fly electric from one destination to another, charge the aircraft and return, using a publicly operated permanently installed smart charger.
Alongside the Charging Network, Aerovolt is offering cheap and accessible electric flying to all pilots with a Private Pilots Licence. Covering the cost of conversion training and free ground schooling. Our Velis Electro Aircraft is available to rent for only £100ph (£8-9ph in electricity per hour). This is the equivalent to almost half the cost of renting a similar conventional ICE powered aircraft.
There are also plans to expand the electric fleet with a range of upcoming new electric aircraft and eVTOLs coming to market.

Lucky we have so much spare capacity of energy and we never get blackouts anymore.
I thought we had changed ‘Blackouts’ to ‘Load shedding? It would be interesting to watch mid air re-fuelling!
Hope the Airport has a suitably capable incoming mains supply…Else all the lights in Lake will be going out with the first electric plane that gets charged …. 🙂
I see the oil lobby’s useful idiots are out in force spreading their FUD. The exact same people bemoaning the illegal immigration caused by the very climate change they are responsible for.
Fred do us a favour be quiet
What are you on about. There is NO oil company money and we have nothing to do with them. Aerovolt is a tech start up company by two brothers

Let’s have some positivity This is a good thing and though a small step to a greener world it should not be put down.
Our grand children will be facing climate change that we have no concept of, every little helps if it reduces fuel emissions. Good luck for the project.
Your Grandchildren will have more concerning issues than a few drowning Polar Bears or a wave or two splashing over Bembridge embankment at spring tide.
The number and quality of those arriving into the UK daily will ensure that their lives are so very much worse than many can now imagine.
Unpopular but sadly true.
Companies House has some interesting information about Aerovolt Ltd and Aerovolt UK Ltd. Is this another make a quick buck and run company.
What interesting information? Aerovolt Ltd was the original company ‘Limited by Guarantee’ so could apply for a certain type of public funding. None were successful. So Aerovolt UK Ltd was set up as to secure venture capital funding which we have.
