Ryde Timebank is celebrating its first anniversary, marking a year of community-driven connection, support, and meaningful exchanges across the town.
Since launching in 2024, the initiative has grown to include 54 individual members and 14 organisational partners, all exchanging time and skills to build a more connected Ryde.
Timebanking is a simple yet powerful concept: for every hour a member gives helping someone, they receive an hour they can spend receiving help in return. From gardening and tech support to companionship and wellbeing sessions, Ryde Timebank has facilitated a wide range of exchanges that have touched lives and built friendships.
To mark the occasion, Ryde Timebank is holding a week of celebrations, reflecting the spirit of community and collaboration it has cultivated over the past year. Events have included a community beach clean, bringing members together to give back to the local environment, and an evening of exchanges taking place on the 6th of June, which is a chance for members to connect, offer skills, and celebrate the power of giving time.
One of the many success stories from the past year is Sue, a recently widowed local resident in her 60s. Looking to meet new people, Sue was introduced to Ryde Timebank at a Living Well coffee morning. Through the network, she formed valuable new friendships and exchanged time helping others – from giving lifts to hospital appointments to receiving gardening help and tech support.
Many members have shared similar stories of connection and growth.
One participant commented:
“I’m so grateful for the support from Ryde Timebank. Clearing brambles in our forest school space sparked connections I wouldn’t have made otherwise. I’ve since linked with two other community groups– the beginning of something really special.”
Ryde Timebank welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds, creating opportunities for everyone to share skills, connect with others, and feel a valued part of the community.
As it enters its 2nd year, Ryde Timebank is aiming to grow its membership and expand its reach across the community. With a strong foundation of goodwill and support, the Timebank is planting the seeds for even more collaboration, well-being, and neighbourly support.
