Year 8 students from Ryde School have been told to stay at home following a confirmed case of COVID-19.
A member of the year group has tested positive for the virus, which has led to the private school taking the decision to write to all Year 8 parents.
Due to a ‘bubble’ system being used to separate year groups, it’s only Year 8 students that are affected. All other year groups are expected to attend school as normal.
Mark Waldron, Headteacher at the school, has said:
“We believe this is an isolated incident and we have all the measures in place to contain the outbreak.
“We will continue to implement daily temperature and symptom checks and all staff, pupils and parents will be asked to remain vigilant to ensure the safe running of our school as we prepare for half term”.
The school’s half term runs from Saturday 24th October to Sunday 8th November.

Are you saying no one on the island can afford private schooling for their children? Maybe some of us work hard and use our money for our children instead of pissing it up the wall at the pub or on pointless ‘hot fords’ or ‘chelsea tractors’. A lot of highly skilled and educated people living and working on the island, we’re not all knuckle draggers.
Isolation kills indiscriminately Loneliness kills indiscriminately Cancer kills indiscriminately Heart attacks kill indiscriminately Economic destruction kills indiscriminately Covid kills people with an average age of 82 with at least two serious other illnesses…why are they doing this…it is not about your health.
Interesting how the Nottinghamshire Crime Commissioner declared a tier 3 lockdown soon, and not those supporting the Health sector.
Seems to be a case of “here’s what you can’t do else you’re a criminal” instead of “here’s what you can do to keep yourself and others safe”
No more toffy nosed than you are, I guess, racist, bigoted and silly.
Did I mention race, No. Ryde school is well known to be a long time school for those rich boys. Unless you are so thick as to think mainlanders are now a different race. Tsk Tsk.
As usual, spouting off when you know nothing, very few pupils are from mainland or abroad. Boarders will have been here since September and are in a good place as far as isolation goes. . Island pupils are at as much risk as any other person on the Island
I know nothing, really. I have to disagree on this one. Have a wonderful day in your bubble.
Why are comments being taken down, is it because we cannot upset the rich.
After noticing many school ‘kids’ not wearing any type of face mask, and not sticking to max 6, plus not keeping safe distance, I am amazed so far only one ! But with all hospitality places shutting at 10pm, the increase of people out and about at 10pm has increased very much , so again will not be surprised to hear of more people contacting Covid 19. Seems not enough people take it serious enough… it could be true !!
Covid 19 was contacted but refused to comment lol
“Schools do not seem to be stoking community transmission of the coronavirus.” Scientists: Shocked and surprised! Anyone who has been paying attention:
How did we end up in a world where “elite” scientists know so little and cause so much harm?
Covid 21 coming very soon.
