Delighted staff at Specsavers Ryde pulled out all the stops this month to mark their 21st anniversary – and raise funds for Mountbatten Hospice.
The Union Street team served up cakes, cupcakes and games for customers and passers-by as they celebrated more than 2 decades of supporting the Island’s community. Staff baked 4 cakes and an impressive 84 cupcakes for the occasion, with extra sweet treats supplied by the local Co-op for a fun doughnut competition.
Special guest, Ryde Mayor Councillor Diane Conyers, joined in the celebrations and praised the team’s efforts.
Diane said:
“I was delighted to join the celebrations and meet the staff. It was a lovely idea to hold a street party and to collect money for the Island’s Mountbatten Hospice. Congratulations Ryde Specsavers!”
Director Tanzila Afzal added:
“It’s been an honour to have Councillor Conyers join us. We wanted to put on a relaxed and welcoming fundraising event to support our Island’s hospice and say thank you to our customers and the local community for all their support over the past 21 years.”
“We have a great team here at Specsavers Ryde, and we’re looking forward to the next 21 years supporting the eyes and ears of our local community.”

Rather ironic to say they have a great team. They HAD a great team, but have either made staff redundant, or made their working conditions so toxic that the majority of long-standing experienced staff have been left with no option but to resign in the past couple of years.
The level of mental anguish that Specsavers parent company have allowed many good people to suffer as a consequence is shocking. I’ve transferred to Newport Specsavers as it’s a much nicer place to go.
