A 2 vehicle collision at Apse Heath roundabout has cause significant traffic delays during this evening’s rush hour (Wednesday).
The incident has involved a Peugeot and a Nissan Qashqai with the former sustaining serious damage to its front end and blocking the roundabout. It is now in the process of being moved.
The Nissan meanwhile has been moved to the car park opposite Raj’s Premier Stores.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is in attendance and a member of the public is directing traffic at the roundabout.
More to follow.
UPDATE @ 17:43 – The damaged Peugeot has now also been moved to the car park and the roundabout is now clear.

Police are there but a member of public is directing traffic! What is that too much for the police to do???
Does not surprise me
The amount of people that can’t work roundabouts is phenomenal! GIVE WAY TO THE RIGHT!!
The roundabout Going into Brading from Ryde is the worse.forever getting cut off.
Think it’s an island thing as it happens all year round.
You have a problem seeing to the right on the main road there, in both directions. Give that stupid island a try a few times at rush hour. As I’ve said before if all the traffic arrives at the island at the same time, who gives way.
Give way to the right was invented when there was only a few cars on the road. Its the quick and the dead there.
I’ve found when that happens that everyone is incredibly polite on the Island and all wait for the other to go first, lol!!
He He. That’s right Zoe, and then they all go at once. Seriously though with the pedestrian crossing only a few meters away, it isn’t a good layout.
COMPLETELY agree! That’s a particularly tricky roundabout at times; I hate going through it.
For the brain limited, if the car will hit your drivers door, stop.
It’s an island thing nobody knows what to do I blame the driving instructors
the amount of time people stop when it’s quite clear nothing is coming from left or right awful drivers on the island, nobody seems to drive over 30mph.very frustrating.
Peugot driver looked late 20s, Nissan driver mid 50s I would say. Donn’t jump to conclusions Ken.
What an idiotic comment Kev. Look at statistics the majority of accidents are caused by young and middle aged drivers.
My identity on this web site ( Island Echo ) is ‘ Kev ‘ and has been for a number of years, an individual using the same name has recently started posting comments, a lot of these comments are inflammatory and receive negative votes as again today, a pathetic comment of ” Old drivers at it again. ” Echo why do you permit this ? We all register with I.E before having access to comment section.
There is no reference to age in this incident, on a more practical level this roundabout is a magnet for accidents and should be controlled by lights there is poor visibility on this mini roundabout and a very close pedestrian crossing with no light control, yes Zoe you should also give way to the Right, drivers of all ages a gender fail this.
Qashqai?? They ain’t pick ups that a Nissan nevara
Qashqai was second car,the Nevara is dragging the Peugeot off roundabout, it’s in the story ( in process of being removed) and can see in photo, also no damage to pick up.
i think you need to go to Specsavers to me they don’t look that old
and i bet you think your the islands number 1 top driver
The driver of the Peugeot drives like a maniac, always having near misses, was bound to happen sooner rather than later.
Put in traffic lights and solve the problem.
what kind of person wants traffic lights.. ??? The queues traffic lights cause is ridiculous, and then you get the red light jumpers… more chaos.. could only improve that junction by changing road layout and have a larger roundabout… NOT TRAFFIC LIGHTS
It’s about time Traffic lights were installed, remove the roundabout.
No one on the island understands roundabouts.
Give way to the right.
F.F.S
At one time traffic lights were installed – but they left the pedestrian crossing as well! And you can guess what happened – lights green but someone was crossing and …
Reinstall the lights but as a Pelican (?) crossing, so all lights go red simultaneously. Then pedestrians are safe.
And yes, I hate this roundabout too, and have to use it regularly.
To much rushing around just wait a second and give way to the RIGHT.people don’t care driving around in there protected boxs ,what’s the rush
The Peugeot has a lot of damage for simply crossing a roundabout, what kind of speed was it doing?..
Probably one of those idiots who floors it at roundabouts because they don’t understand a very simple rule.
Send those responsible to Ukraine. they’ll fit in with the locals
What’s the betting one or both have not tax or licence.
Everyone is always in a hurry.. no one seems to know what the brake pedal is for.. BEFORE you hit something !!! SLOW DOWN… think…
I had a near incident with a similar car approaching from the Whitely Bank direction. I was coming from the Arreton direction. I had safely entered the roundabout when a car slowed down a little then increased its speed and shot across in front of me. All I can think of is that the driver was being bloody-minded.
I believe that if you had already entered the roundabout that you had priority over traffic approaching the roundabout from your right. It would appear that it was not the case in my experience!
