UPDATED: Residents in the rural areas of Whitwell and Niton are without power again this evening (Friday) following a network fault.
Mirroring last night’s power outage, which affected 1700 homes, properties in neighbouring Chale, Blackgang and Ventnor are also without electricity. The power was lost just before 18:40.
A spokesperson for SSE has told Island Echo that the same fault has occurred as in 24hrs previous and is affecting an estimated 1700 properties once again this evening.
Equipment was installed on the network overnight to help pin point the location of the fault, however engineers are still unsure as to where the issue has occurred.
Residents will be reconnected in stages again tonight with the majority of the properties expected to have power restored within the next two hours.
Southern and Scottish Energy would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and would like to thank customers for their patience.
UPDATED @ 21:32 – Power has been restored to the majority of properties in Whitwell and surrounding areas.
