Firefighters are utilising an aerial ladder platform to safely remove an injured woman from a block of flats in Ryde, which has led to the closure of a main road.
Emergency services are on scene at East Hill Road, which has been closed in both directions by police this afternoon (Wednesday).
2 appliances from Ryde and Sandown – and a duty officer – responded on blue lights and sirens shortly before 14:00 to assist the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service in safely removing a female patient from a residential address.
Island Echo understands the woman has a neck injury.
Scaffolding erected around the building for the replacement of windows is aiding the operation, but an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Newport has been called in.
The patient is set to be placed on a stretcher and into the basket of the ALP, being before lowered to the ground and into the awaiting ambulance for onward conveyance to St Mary’s Hospital.
Police have closed East Hill Road in both directions between West Hill Road and Ampthill.
