A commitment from Police that all reported residential burglaries on the Isle of Wight will now be attended has been welcomed by the Island’s MP.
As reported by Island Echo earlier this week, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that following an ongoing review of burglary deployment across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and recognising the Police and Crime Commissioner’s commitment in the Police and Crime Plan to challenge the force to ensure community crimes that really matter are given the priority they need, officers will now attend every report of a residential burglary that the force receives.
The news follows a request made last week by Home Secretary Suella Braverman asking police forces in England and Wales to support victims and adopt a ‘common sense’ approach to policing. She said:
“To put it simply, the public want to know that an officer will visit them after a crime such as burglary. They want to feel safe in their cities, towns and villages. This is not just about doing your day job well, it is also about victims needing to feel supported and not ignored.
“Unfortunately, there is a perception that the police have had to spend too much time on symbolic gestures, than actually fighting criminals. This must change. Initiatives on diversity and inclusion should not take precedence over common sense policing.”
Reacting to the news, Bob Seely MP said:
“I welcome the position the Home Secretary has taken on this and I am pleased Hampshire Constabulary have responded so quickly and positively to the request.
“Our police officers need to spend their time, energy and resources on Islanders’ priorities by dealing with crime, anti-social behaviour and domestic violence. These are the things that will make a positive difference to people’s lives. These are the things that matter.

I wonder how long these improved standards will last following Liz’s special fiscal operation.

Who would have guessed reducing the police force made crime worse, getting some more back made it better. If only the people had told his mates, over and over again, before they halved the islands police and removed the roads unit.
It’s only taken them six months to get the Ryde 125cc biker gang under control. At least now they (except one) have reasonable exhausts on. I can ignore them now and they can ride like twats without anyone looking at them till their harts content or kill someone. Because they will.
Reducing the Police force, not only on the island but nationally, was the Tory Prime Minister, Theresa May’s doing. Don’t blame the Police Crime Commissioner for making 20,000 officers redundant.
Who in their right mind would get rid of 20,000 Police officers and think it was a smart move?!?!? A Conservative, say no more. Nothing changes does it.
Welcoming an improvement in standards from a baseline caused by the cuts made by his own party?

Maybe, if your party, who incidentally has been in power for 12 years, hadn’t cut funding to the police, this wouldn’t come as such a surprise.
Perhaps you could use the same mantra for all politicians too – and raise the standards in Government first!
Given that our current policing on the Island is virtually non existant i.e no effective roads policing, vandalism and antisocial behaviour, ridiculous response times, insufficient officers any improvement would be amazing but be prepared for the next rise in the police preceprt to fund these things that they should already be doing instead of their go to cop out of just giving out a crime number.
The Police retire at 55 on a massive pension which is funded by us, then get another job driving a patient Ambulance or similar make them work a bit longer the rest of us have to work until nearly seventy.
