A revised Red Jet timetable is to be in place for yet another day as a result of repair works running on for longer than anticipated.
As previously reported by Island Echo, earlier this week an issue was discovered with Red Jet 4’s port jet unit, resulting in the vessel being pulled from service.
This problem was exacerbated by the fact that Red Jet 6 is already out of service for its annual refit.
It was hoped that the problem would only last until last Friday but delays forced the revised timetable to be pushed back to Saturday, then Sunday, and now today (Monday)
Leanna Lakes, Operations Director at Red Funnel, said:
“Unfortunately the repair works required on Red Jet 4 are taking longer than expected; therefore, we will be running a revised Red Jet timetable on Monday 13 February.”
“We encourage customers to check our live service status on our website or our Red Funnel app prior to travelling. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience and our team is working as quickly as we can to restore our full service.
UPDATE @ 18:45 – It has been confirmed that a 2-boat service will return from tomorrow morning (Tuesday).
Leanna Lakes, Operations Director at Red Funnel, has said:
“Following the hard work of our engineers I am pleased to update our passengers that Red Jet 4 will be back in service tomorrow and we will be operating to normal timetables.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused during this time.”

Don’t forget Red Jet 7 is running at a reduced speed as it has an engine out, so those times they have published are not achievable and there will inevitably be further cancellations at some point to get the thing back on time. Me and my son came back from a football match in London on Saturday night, we got to Southampton at 20:15 and were lucky to make the delayed 19:40 with about a minute to spare, the advertised 20:50 we were aiming for was cancelled, so had we missed it, that would have meant either the 21:00 car ferry or wait until 22:00 for the Red Jet.
And they still have the audacity to say thank you for travelling high speed! Crossing at what equates to 30mph is hardly high speed.
Glad I don’t have to use it regularly!
What was that? Did somebody mention a bridge?
What a feeble excuse Red Funnel have given after all the disruption they have caused. Red Funnel should be ashamed of themselves.
