Major disruption on Red Funnel’s vehicle ferry service looks set to continue until midweek.
The disruption started last week as a result of an unexpected fault with Red Falcon’s propulsion system. A total of 12 cross-Solent services were cancelled on each of Sunday (9th March) and today (10th March).
The below listed revised timetable will be in operation up to, and including, Wednesday 12th March.
During this period, Red Osprey will operate the following daily crossings:
- Departing Southampton: 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, 21:00 & 23:55
- Departing East Cowes: 07:30, 10:30, 13:30, 16:30, 19:30 & 22:30
To increase available deck space, additional sailings via the firms freight ferry, Red Kestrel, will be put on.
A Red Funnel spokesperson has said:
“We sincerely apologise for this disruption and are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Booked customers will be contacted with changes to their travel times and have the option to rebook or receive a refund. If you’d like to amend or cancel your sailing time, please visit our amend / cancellation page.
“We will provide further updates as soon as possible and thank our customers for their patience during this time. Customers traveling with us should continue to check our service status page for departure updates.”
UPDATE TUESDAY – Red Funnel says that its revised timetable will now continue until at least Thursday (13th March).
It has been revealed that a suspected failure on an inlet valve has caused damage to Red Falcon’s forward main engine turbocharger.
