UPDATED: Police have taped off a section of Bellevue Road in Ryde this morning (Friday) following an incident overnight.
Members of the public are currently being prevented from accessing Bellevue Road between Nelson Place and Dover Street in order to preserve any potential evidence.
It comes as officers investigate the circumstances surrounding a currently unknown incident which occurred during the early hours.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to release any further information about what has taken place, but further updates are expected later this morning.
Police are situated at either end of the road. Neighbouring roads are unaffected.
UPDATE @ 10:40 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that they are investigating an alleged sexual assault on an 18-year-old woman.
Specialist officers are supporting the victim, who HAS Reported that she left Coburgs on Union Street at around 02:00 before being assaulted at the junction of Bellvue Road and Dover Street shortly afterwards.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened and officers are reviewing CCTV in the area.
Members of the Neighbourhood Policing Team are on patrol this morning and anyone with any concerns should speak to one of these officers.
