Thanks to Wightlink’s sponsorship, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s annual ‘1940s Experience’ will welcome a replica Spitfire to Havenstreet this weekend.
The Spitfire, lovingly built by Terry Arlow at his base in Lowestoft over 25 years, will be on display during the event this weekend. Terry’s replica aircraft is set to travel to the Isle of Wight on the 22:15 sailing from Portsmouth on Thursday.
As an extra tribute to the dedicated volunteers who organise the nostalgic event, an original Spitfire and a Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight are expected to perform a special flypast on Saturday afternoon – weather permitting.
Liz Tagart, Events Organiser, has said:
“Our team of volunteers plan the popular 1940s event throughout the autumn and winter for this highlight of the summer. We are grateful for the support from Wightlink who help many of our partners attend.”
