Island Roads is to complete urgent repairs to a sinkhole which opened up on a residential road in Shanklin yesterday (Sunday).
The sinkhole first appeared in the middle of Whitecross Avenue late on Sunday afternoon, just 2 days after a temporary repair was carried out in the same location.
Following the discovery – by a member of public – Island Roads quickly dispatched a district steward who coned off the affected area.
It is hoped that the repairs will be completed today.
An Island Roads Spokesperson has said:
“A depression in the road was reported on Friday, to which we applied a temporary repair and then closely monitored the area over the weekend.
“Late yesterday afternoon, a small void developed, which we promptly secured with barriers to ensure the road remained open.“Today, we will be investigating this further and carrying out any necessary repairs to restore the road.”
