Paramedics are tending to a cyclist who has been injured in a road traffic collision in Shanklin this evening (Wednesday).
Police have closed Regent Street at its junction with North Road as emergency crews deal with the situation.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance. They were alerted to the injured male’s plight at around 17:00.
Police say the cyclist has sustained injuries to his face and shoulder as a result of a collision with a car.
Regent Street is expected to re-open shortly.
I saw this happen and I saw the mini behind me knock him off his bike as it came round the corner from high st into regent st at 5pm. He shouted out as the mini obvs didn’t see him and then Knocked him off his bike I really hope he is ok xx
Having had personal experience of how much damage this cyclist may have incurred, I wish him all the best. So careless, from what Jack said, and, for what – to save a few seconds.
Sounds terrible. Too many drivers in a hurry to shave off at best a few minutes off each journey. Need more speed cameras and take any car caught speeding and sell or crush it if repeat offenders. That’ll take the wind out their sails.
We have lost our policing when it comes to traffic control, it’s now become a free for all and to hell with the consequences.

Councillor Ian Ward was tasked with implementing the UK Government announcement of 9th May and associated Statutory Directive published the same day, requiring all councils to implement walking and cycling changes ‘within Days not Weeks’ when lockdown started. The Government announced £2 billion of funding.Walking, cycling and local groups on the IOW have pushed for implementation, submitted plans and offered assistance with resourcing the changes.
The response has been to shuffle the matter around council staff.
Like others, the West Wight plans were ignored.
The Government has repeatedly called for a major shift to prioritise walking and cycling and yet even current plans (B&Q roundabout) fail to do so.
In the absence of IOW leadership and a flat ignoring of the directive, more pedestrian and cyclist injuries seem inevitable.
I seen this happen and the cyclist was cycling dangerously and was using a mobile phone and swerving in and out. 5 minutes prior It was doing wheelies whilst cycling. Car driver never stood a chance.

If what Dave said is right, the cyclist is irresponsible. He’s not the only cyclist as there is one who continually going the wrong way along Regent Street. He also thinks not wearing a face mask in shops is OK for himself.
