Red Funnel has announced that it will be starting its vehicle ferry winter timetable 4 days earlier than planned, beginning on Saturday (29th October).
The date change is due to essential maintenance for Red Eagle, which needs a Voith propulsion unit exchange.
This comes at a time when the company is preparing to send its vehicle ferries to Falmouth for annual refit. The cross-Solent operator says ensuring Red Eagle is fit for service is essential, as the vessel will remain in service alongside Red Osprey while Red Falcon departs for Falmouth on 3rd November.
Red Funnel is contacting all impacted customers to let them know their new sailing time.
The winter timetable will run as planned up until 30th March 2023.
Fran Collins, CEO at Red Funnel, has said:
“Our winter timetable is designed to align to the quieter winter months, allowing for routine vessel maintenance outside of the busy summer season. This year, due to essential works on the Red Eagle, it has been necessary to begin the winter timetable slightly earlier than we planned.
“We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience.”

She can stuff her apology. Just disrupting those of us who are due to travel at the weekend with no regard at all for our inconvenience. It is time that heavy fines were imposed on these useless ferry operators. You just cannot rely on them anymore to run the ferries you have booked and paid to travel on.
Fran Collins is a disaster for Red Funnel and the Island. She should go and go now
