Red Funnel will continue to operate a revised timetable throughout this weekend as repairs to Red Falcon have still not been completed.
For over a week now, the cross-Solent operator has been operating a single ferry service to and from the Isle of Wight, due to an engine fault with Red Falcon.
It was initially hoped the revised timetable would only operate until Thursday but it was then announced that repairs had not yet been completed and sea trials still needed to take place.
Cancellations continued yesterday (Friday) with further news of yet more cancellations today.
Now, Red Funnel has confirmed another 12 sailings have been scrapped for tomorrow (Sunday).
It is unknown whether or not Red Falcon has failed sea trials, which were due to take place.
Not fit for purpose.
20 years ago, Red Funnel upgraded and enlarged their ferries, White Link had beat old rust buckets with collapsing Mezz decks….
Boot on the other foot now.
Not a good advert for tourism.
Not a positive advert for the island either.
Should be taken over by Uber.
Uber would run a better service and would be much
cheaper.
Short term savings on planned maintenance leads to long term breakdowns!
Parts are no longer kept in store to be used when needed at a moments notice, but instead we are in the age of “just in time” which does not work in engineering.
Hence, ferries out of action. Well done to the accountants, who will still make a profit on paper at the expense of the customer and the long term reputation and viability of the company.
Take more notice of the engineers!
Had to use it Saturday, absolutely shambolic, the ferry coming back to the island was ruined by so many damn drunks, loud, swearing and there were people with kids nearby too, staff of course did nothing. red funnel staff on the ferries quite frankly are a disgrace. as for the QR codes to rate how the staff did, well they might be taken down soon once they get to many complaints to deal with. No need to mention the overpriced fares either, even with the oh so generous (NOT) discount codes.
Put it out of its misery..sell it off.
