The Wayfarer Cycle Touring Club’s annual Randonnee, that was held back in May, raised over £8,000 for 4 local charities.
What is believed to be the biggest free cycling event in the UK, and possibly Europe, this year’s event was held on the Sunday of the first bank holiday in May (1st May), and was the 1st event since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The £8,000 raised will be split between 4 local charities; Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Wessex Cancer Trust (IOW Branch), IOW Youth Trust and Aspire Ryde.
With restricted numbers of 2,500, to comply with current COVID-19 advice, the event saw 5 checkpoints spread around the Island 4 of them selling local refreshments supplied by the local PTA.
Income and funds were generated by badge sales – both before after and during the event, and voluntary donations.
