Petrol stations across the Isle of Wight are rammed with motorists panic buying fuel today (Friday).
Queues have been forming at all the main supermarket forecourts including Tesco in Ryde, Morrisons in Lake and Newport, Asda in Newport and Sainsbury’s in Newport.
National media reports have suggested that some petrol stations have had to close due to a lack of fuel, caused by a lack of delivery drivers. This has prompted panic buying across the country, including here on the Island.
There is no suggestion that fuel is about to run out and the advice is that motorists should continue to fuel their vehicles as normal.
President of the AA, Edmund King, has said:
“There is no shortage of fuel and thousands of forecourts are operating normally with just a few suffering temporary supply chain problems.
“Drivers should not fill up outside their normal routines because, even if the occasional petrol station is temporarily closed, others just down the road will be open.
“It is now clear that there have been occasional delays over recent weeks that have been managed with hardly anyone noticing. This was a manageable problem.”

Hyped up with inevitable results. Any toilet roll?
Panic buying will be the only reason fuel supplies are affected.
The island’s fuel depot was recently closed, so all fuel is brought over in tankers from the mainland.
People panic buying are selfish and will be the root cause of the island having issues.
Regrettably, the LAST thing the Government AND the Fuel Companies should have said is “There is no need to panic”.
It seems it is in peoples DNA!
Say there are no problems, and thus will happen, which then exacerbates the problem, resulting in the very shortages that were never REALLY there.
All “I’m alright Jack”, and no thought whatsoever for people who may NEED to get fuel for work purposes!
What a bunch of Idiots ….. pitchforkers in a panic.
Toilet Rolls and Pandemic spring to mind!!!
Wow, idiots. First it was the toilet paper, now this.
If I run out I’ll still not get on a Beryl
As usual the moment they say don’t panic buy fuel everyone just goes crazy and when they have filled their cars to the brim with fuel they don’t need it will be off to the supermarket to stock up just incase there is a loo roll shortage. Pretty pathetic really but in a me, me, me society I guess you can’t expect any better.
This behaviour makes me sick. If there was a real emergency where people needed to share and show compassion we wouldn’t stand a chance.
No I’m afraid most dont give a sh–
These days welcome to the human race
Most petrol stations are keeping an emergency supply for ambulances and polices cars and the like
The people panic buying petrol are the people that panic bought toilet roll.
All I want to do is my normal weekly shop! Fat chance of getting anywhere near the supermarkets with those idiots blocking the way! Will they never learn? I bet most of these are still getting through all the bog roll they panic bought last year!
Hope all you people on here moaning don’t run low on fuel and have to buy fuel cos you will be no different than those in queues today. I for one was down to 26 miles on the gauge and top up every 3 to 4 weeks so don’t tar everyone with the same brush
Totally agree! My car just need its regular 3 weekly fill up – I wasn’t panic buying just a normal purchase for me that happened to be required today.
Nobody is tarring anyone Mr bloody sensitive, only the stupid people who don’t need to top up. Not people like your delicate self who would routinely top up there car. (Why are there so many idiots on this island?).
* their
Wow, someone must be a bit sensitive, minus four votes. There, their, they’re.
Wrong . There is correct
Erm, really? For clarity, “top up their car”. Not the other “there”, which was correct.
Yes they are cos you and others are making assumptions and I bet yourself and most of the moaners who have cars have full tanks. What has it got to do with you what other people do anyway as you can only top up once unlike shopping where you can keep buying over and over again. That’s panic buying
Bloody Media scaring everyone again, they know how selfish and ignorant the public are…..so why do they do it?..
It sells papers?
It doesn’t take much to trigger the cretins, I went past tesco at 6:30 am and the tanker was topping up the garage, what hasn’t dawned on these people is that most of our fuel comes over by fuel barge and it is local drivers who deliver it.
Fuel barge stopped ages ago it all comes by tanker now
Tesco have theirs delivered by lorries all the way. No problems with driver shortages and certainly no petrol shortage. So stop panic buying whoever thinks we have a problem on the island, we don’t…but we will
Reg The fuel barge is no more, it all comes by road now.
I honestly had no idea what was going on when I went to get petrol earlier. I just innocently went to get some fuel and I see people going stark raving bonkers trying to get fuel.
I’m ultimately happy to get some of course, but I didn’t do it for the sake of panic buying XD
and they wonder why we’re known as the “sheeple”.
Oh dear panic buying at its finest!, wouldn’t surprise me if a few of these drivers buy Jerry Cans to stock up . I for one won’t change my spending habits and hopefully all this silliness will die down.
It’s idiots like this ,that cause a shortage. Absolute idiots .
So the media reports this earlier this week reported a couple of petrol stations have run out, now panic buying again why does the media cause such news just manage your news responsibly
Just pathetic people I’m afraid caused panic I blame the bbc
I’ve got a pallet load of bog rolls, 18 months old, mostly unused, will swap for a tank full of petrol……
I will never understand what goes on in the minds of people who panic buy, whether it be loo rolls etc last year, or now, fuel. Why can’t these people understand that panic buying is THE cause of shortages. It’s simple, don’t panic buy, then there will be no shortages!
Covid is not good enough lesson for this messed up population. These kind of creatures would step on anyone for their survival if there is a real emergency. Crack on Mother Nature!
I lost all faith in humanity a very long time ago..?! This proves my point. I’m disgusted.
Put £30 in last week. I still got just under half a tank so if anybody needs me Ill be at the Winchester waiting for all this to blow over
Guess what… early Saturday morning and the morons are at it again! Just feel sorry for those in genuine need of fuel.
All fine at Tesco this afternoon. Drove in and filled up as usual. Hope they enjoyed the long queue yesterday! 🙂
There is no fuel shortage, so the media & all the selfish idiots create one, well done.
Muppet behaviour ‘fueled’ by the stupid media
I can see the logic in filling up. As all drivers will still USE the same amount of fuel thus not needing to top up again so soon thereby giving the slower to react motorists an opportunity to by their ten pounds worth.
I just hope our ambulances & other emergency vehicles can get their fuel, did any of the panic buyers who filled their tanks to the brim think of that?!!!!
Sainsbury’s are leaving some petrol for emergency vehicles.
TESCO DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH PETROL DELIVERIES. WELL THEY DIDN’T BEFORE ALL THE PANIC BUYERS GOT STUCK IN!!!!!!!
Unfortunately this is the human race for you , self, self, self, these people don’t think .All they are doing is making things worse. Come on people we live on a bloody island for god sake.
So how many of these people usually fill there tanks , not bloody many I bet. So ok you have a full tank so where you going ? Right I understand now you don’t want to use the bus , school runs or heaven forbid you have to use the things that are attached to your lower body .
We should change our name from Human Race to Selfish Race..
Absolute Morons fooled once again by Murdock & Johnson. Next it will be £500 chav voucher if you buy an electric car. And the same idiots will fall for it.
You only got your self’s to blame for petrol panic buy
Think of the fir police ambulance coastguard etc not the vehicles they use but for one the nhs staff getting to work ; retained fire fighters getting to the station for examples
Most petrol stations are keeping petrol aside for emergency vehicles
Well I really hope so how do you know this for sure
Wow the irony!!!! So you selfish idiots are panic buying fuel. What do you think is going to happen. I’ll tell you…those that are not sheep will not have the fuel to get their shopping so will do their shopping on line. Only problem is the delivery drivers won’t be able to deliver because you Muppets took all the fuel. So so clever
What a bunch of melons
Why are people so selfish over buying the petrol. I just hope you all dont NEED THE EMERGENCY SERVICES they NEED PETROL. let’s hope none of your family member need a ambulance. Shame on you all, NURSES CARERS they need petrol let’s hope they dont have to visit one of your relatives and can not get there because they have no petrol……….. just think .?
GETTIN ON ME BLEDDY NERVES NARE BLOODY LOUNATICS!!!! TAKING AGES TO GET MY COD OAP AND CHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM ANGRY
Make it a MINIMUM of 5 gallons. Pay for 5 gallons first, fill up from the pump, not enough room in the tank? Hard Luck!
what next petrol coupons 5 gal max good on you morons
