The public can pose questions to the Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, and for the first time the new Chief Constable, Alexis Boon, next week.
Key areas to be covered in the hour-long online session of the Commissioner’s Oversight of Policing Services (COPS) include police visibility and engagement, business and retail crime, road safety, serious violence and anti-social behaviour. These are all priorities within the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan.
The Chief Constable began work with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary at the start of August and this will be the public’s first opportunity to ask him questions and hear from him directly.
This latest COPS event takes place at 18:00 on Thursday 2nd October and questions can be pre-submitted or posed during the live stream across 3 Facebook pages (the PCC’s own page as well as the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary).
PCC Donna Jones said:
“COPS is your chance to ask your policing questions of myself and the Chief Constable. Anyone can join this live online event and ask us a question. If you cannot make it onto the live event, or if you don’t have a facebook account, you can pre-submit your question and watch the event afterwards on my website.
“I am committed to the introduction Local Bobbies and rebuilding local policing, but to continue this work, I need to know your thoughts on the key areas faced in our two counties.
“COPS is a great way to directly engage with communities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, providing answers and reassurance on the crimes and concerns that matter the most to people.

A recording of the COPS session will be made available for anyone who can’t watch the event live and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner will endeavour to respond to all submitted questions.

After the reports over the last couple of days on BBC News about the truly pathetic capitulation by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police in both Shirley and Portsmouth, is there any point? They’ve clearly given up dealing with antisocial and criminal behaviour and are incapable of responding to crimes that actually affect the public, presumably because they are too busy sitting at a computer, persecuting folk for posting valid opinions on Social Media. The officers we saw clearly had no clue about their powers of arrest or basic laws such as the Public Order Act or the use of bind overs/ arrest to prevent a breach of the peace. Don’t they train them any more? Donna needs to mug up on these things and make the Chief Constable extract digit and tell his officers to use every power at their disposal; not just the new ones invented by politicians to propagate their political agenda.

I saw 2 numpty motorists driving from Sandown to
Shanklin today, they were swerving whilst driving
nearly hitting pavements.
The island needs plain clothes plod in unmarked
vehicles driving around the island to catch such
numpties.
I would like to see cctv cameras islandwide to
catch such numpties.
My son lives in the big smoke and its 20mph
practically everywhere, if you do 24mph you get a
fine in the post.
On the island vehicles drive 50mph+ in a 30mph
zone and nothing happens!
The island are behind the times.
