medinayardgeneration2The local community is invited to Cowes Methodist Church on Friday 20th March between 16:00 and 19:30 to view a public exhibition, including a model, and discuss the developing proposals for Medina Yard with the design team.

At 18:00 there will be a 30 minute on-screen presentation to explain the proposals, followed by a questions and answer session. Following the Forum, the JTP-led team will finalise the proposals for submission to the Isle of Wight Council as a planning application in April 2015.

Medina Yard is located within walking distance of Cowes town centre and incorporates a prominent stretch of river frontage. What was once a prosperous part of the town for large-scale ship building has now become largely obsolescent, dilapidated and isolated from the local community.

In 2013 John Thompson & Partners, architects and community planners, appointed by the Harrison Trust, worked with the local community to create a new Vision for the site, incorporating a viable mix of uses to support a range of active business, marine and leisure related uses and a variety of homes. At the Medina Yard Community Planning Weekend, participants also expressed the desire to continue to be involved in the development of the proposals for the future of the site. In response to this, the Community Forum was established.

Charles Campion, Partner at JTP said:

“The participation of local people at the Community Planning Weekend and through the Community Forums has been very important as we have developed viable and sustainable proposals for the regeneration of Medina Yard and its relationship with Cowes. We hope as many people as possible will come along to the pre-application event to see the new presentation and model of the proposals.”
