A power cut is affecting thousands of homes and businesses in the East Wight this afternoon (Wednesday).
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks are aware of the fault and are investigating.
The power went off for homes and businesses at around 14:24.
The addresses affected are those living between Bembridge, Yaverland, Sandown, Lake and Brading.
A spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has said:
“We’re sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed. Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can. If you need more information, please call us on 105 or send us a message on Facebook or Twitter (@ssencommunity)”.
UPDATE @ 15:47 – Just 20 postcode areas are now without power, with an estimated reconnection time of 17:30.
Initially, over 180 postcodes were affected.
UPDATE @ 19:00 – Power has been restored to the affected properties.

Fancy cutting the power just goes to prove they are not football fans. The management of this company should be sacked for lack of investment. So much for their drones and super hammers that were supposed to help them detect faults.
Airport’s don’t work, Red Funnel & Wightlink ferries don’t work are always breaking down a lot lately, floating bridge don’t work, Euro footie on tv don’t work, trains don’t work, lawn mowers don’t work and my electric don’t work, is there anything that works?

Perhaps Steve could explain how he has come to his delusion that ‘power shedding’ would benefit a network operator when they are fined by Ofgen for every minute that power is lost even if the cause is a third party damage.
You say you want investment but then moan about any work going on or any planned maintenance.
He moans about investment in drones to save thousands in inspections and safety.
If a smart hammer makes the climbing of poles quicker and safer then bring it on. Would Steve be clinbing a pole with live electricity in a storm to keep the power on, I think not.

Where were the storms in last few weeks that all the outages have occurred. Answer is there wasn’t any. And load shedding is common practice when they haven’t got the capacity to keep up with demand even the oracle says it happens
Yes Steve. Load shedding has happened in the past. In the early 1970s, the government instructed the electricity boards to restrict electricity use(using load shedding on a rota system)due to the industrial action by the miners. Also we had the three day week to restrict electricity use at factories etc. No load shedding has occurred since then. As Fred pointed out, electricity suppliers are governed by the regulator. They even dictate maintenance schedules and time frames. You are totally deluded thinking that SSEN can switch people off on a whim. You obviously have no idea how the ESI(ELECTRICTY SUPPLY INDUSTRY)Is run and regulated.
The regulators are toothless so they know whatever they do nothing but a slapped wrist will happen. Also load shedding was happening in the 80s and 90s so don’t talk rubbish please
