Posties across the Isle of Wight are once again striking in the continuing row over pay, with further strike action planned in the run up to Christmas.
Those who are part of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have today (Friday) walked out for a 48-hour strike with picket lines established outside sorting offices in Ryde, Sandown and Newport.
Further strikes are planned for 13th October, 20th October, 25th October and 28th November. These surround key dates such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
There will also be some element of disruption when delivery workers walk out on 4th, 10th, 16th and 25th November, as well as 2nd December. Those involved in collections and processing will walk out on 3rd, 9th, 15th and 24th November, as well as 1st December.
Royal Mail will continue to deliver as many Special Delivery and Tracked24 parcels as possible, with priority given to COVID test kits and medical prescriptions.
Letters are not being delivered on strike days, save for those marked Special Delivery.

UP THE WORKERS !
( notice Ventnor delivery office are still working ) scabs.
very kind of you to offer to pay for their lost wages during an economic crisis so they can strike, too.
Zero hoots of support outside main depot today.
What does that tell you?
Get back to bloody work, like rest of us over worked and under paid, what makes you so special!
ERM……..A BACK BONE ? You gutless wonder !
Strange strike this i have spoken to three postal workers in the last week all of them were against the strike. Also each stated that the pay and conditions on the Island were good and could not afford to lose money by striking. It would seen to be more political than anything to do with looking after the workers.
Nothing new there then.
These set of strikes that started last month are the first since 2009 so yes it is something new
Solidarity from UNITE members at GKN with all the CWU members striking , enough is enough!!
If you do your homework and find out why, not only the postal workers but the train drivers are striking you might change your attitude! It’s not just to do with pay, it’s many rules, regulations, workers rights, health and safety and redundancies that the Conservative Government are trying to change. Listened to the top man at Unite yesterday, he explained and it is terrible what the Government are trying to do. It’s not for the good of the country or its workers.
My attitude is one of total support for the unions. Interesting that you ask me to do my homework yet you tell me that the ‘top man at Unite’ was speaking yesterday, as any Unite member would know the general secretary is a woman, Sharon Graham, I helped elect her!! I am fully aware of the reasons for strikes thank you very much , Sunshine.
the looming recession and reduction in peoples fiances will ensure that royal mail have less revenue, which means less money to pay workers – that means cuts – you demanding higher pay, simply means more redundancies later on.
the recession will cull the bars/restaurants and other discretionary sectors first. Unemployment will increase and it will become an employers market again – you will see lower wages being offered for the few jobs that will be advertised in the coming months, as companies are seeing a downturn across the board. -less revenue, less wages, less jobs, less spending, less revenue – etc etc.
striking will just advance the onset of the recession sooner.
cmon people out there striking.. your not one of those poor people stuck on minimum wage and ARENT striking for more!
your lucky too have a job that isn’t minimum wage or zero hours fgs.
noone should be allowed too strike and affect innocent folk.
yes the col has gone up and bosses earn too much but change jobs if you cant survive on what is an ok wage.
Are you going to tell everyone on minimum wage and zero hour contracts to simply change jobs as well then Jen? I’m guessing you’ve done approximately zero research into the strikes if you think it’s all about wages.
Thanks for the advice why didn’t we think of that , sorry did you not get something delivered today . Oddly enough postmen are waiting for parcels
And letters too, never mind I’m sure you’ll survive in your perfect world
Bosses earn too much because people like you won’t stand up for your rights and a fair wage. Just so your boss can go on 5 holidays a year.
Well said jen, Bring back the Victorian Work Houses……..
We are not worthy……..(IDIOT).
No there not. They have a right to strike thank god. There not out because they are greedy they just want there fair share of the profits and most of all to protect the workers rights and conditions. Just because you think it ok to be pushed around and except low wage and poor working conditions doesn’t mean they have to. It’s people like you that would be happy to return to Victorian time and put children back up the chimneys. You probably happy the utilities we pay for are sky high because you believe it’s ok to rip people off.
if they want there fair share of the profits then they should start and run there own business instead of being employed to help run some one else’s business
Do you actually have a job yourself? I fully support any workers that strike when it’s clear that those at the top are abusing those at the bottom
Couldnt agree more, if you can’t earn enough change jobs, Train Driver vacancies over £50,000 a year, 35 hour week green to go Red to stop o forgot they are going on strike as well I bet the union leaders are on £100,000 with car, sorry no vacancy there.
I’d be interested to know your employment record and current job?
And they are just trying to prevent Royal Mail trying to make them a zero hour gig economy employee.
Royal Mail are losing £1 million a day. Sadly, the posties are destroying their own jobs while the likes of DPD, Amazon, Hermes etc are making a fortune from former Royal Mail customers!
There’s nothing ‘Royal’ about our mail service today, they shouldn’t be allowed to use that title.
Royal Mail made £758m profit last year giving over £400m to shareholders. Gave the CEO £140,000 bonus which would take a postie, over 6 years to earn. If Royal Mail are lossing 1m a day then the board should be sacked for miss management
To then impose a 2% payrise is disgraceful when inflation is 10%. On top of this Royal Mail are attempting to erode terms and conditions, including the removal of allowance that will negate any payrise. The changes Royal Mail want to impose include compulsory Sunday working and to move letter deliveries to PM. Resulting in later deliveries and undermining the universal service. There are some posties that are now struggling to pay rents and having to make choices this winter of either heat or eat…
that’s just life unfortunately not just postmen going through it everyone is going through it GLOBALLY and no one is receiving there delivery’s on time now either well done guys
How much money are they losing everyday that they are on strike ?????
Bet the unions aren’t losing money !!!!
Still if they can afford it , carry on …
Christmas is coming …..
EXACTLY if the pay was that bad they wouldn’t be able to afford to take 6 days off this month to strike and another 6 next month
Posties do a difficult job in all weathers.
They deserve a decent pay rise.
Royal Mail can afford to pay a decent wage.
Shove a penny or 2 on stamps and give it to the Posties.
Think of all the poor persons who receive their medication by Post,
Strikes could end up killing people.
It’s about time this shambles of a Government stepped in to help.
The way things are going the whole country will be on strike soon.
there just wasting every ones time if you want a pay rise FIND A HIGHER PAYING JOB i now have to wait extra long for my delivery if anything they should have there pay cut for not doing the job there being paid to do!!!!!
Oh boo hoo, poor you won’t get you delivery get a grip idiot
