The Hosted Outreach Service, whereby a nearby Subpostmaster provides a service at set times each week, is operated by the postmaster from Godshill Post Office. The subpostmaster visits the community every week on Mondays 10:00-14:00; Tuesdays 11:30-15:30 and Fridays 15:00-18:00.
The new service is 150 metres from the former branch at 8 Alverstone Road, Whippingham, which closed temporarily in June 2014 due to the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.
An official launch party is planned for Tuesday 17th March at 11:00.
Mike Bulpitt, Chief Executive of local charity Community Action, which is leading delivery of the outreach service, said:
“We’re always trying to maintain and improve local services for Island communities and it’s great news that with the support of Post Office Ltd and Whippingham Community Association and Parish Council, we’re able to re-establish this service.”
Robert Worley, Field Change Advisor, said:
“We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Whippingham. We are confident this new service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future. We received a number of comments from customers and local representatives during the consultation period. This feedback was all in support of our plans, as the community welcomed the restoration of Post Office services to Whippingham.”
