Island artist Gail Willows has partnered up with local support to create an exclusive pop-up Art Gallery in the heart of Cowes, to raise funds for 2 local charities close to her heart: Wessex Cancer Trust and UKSA.
Mermaid Gin and Olesinski have supported Gail Willows to create a beautiful venue and experience in a courtyard setting, for visitors to enjoy art whilst sipping a cold drink, in the Mermaid Bar, whilst enjoying cakes from professional chef Something Yummy.
The event is launched during the height of Cowes sailing season 31st July – 5th August 2022, and the courtyard is right on Cowes High Street (next to Gastronomy Restaurant).
Visitors will be able to soak up the atmosphere in the Mermaid gin bar, within the tranquil haven, enjoy locally produced cakes and refreshments, view some beautiful coastal-inspired artwork and homewares.
Artist Gail Willows, came up with the idea after her mum – who had suffered from a brain tumour – was beginning to fundraise for Wessex Cancer trust by selling cupcakes. Gail realised she regretfully had no skills in cakes, but then reflected that despite a lack of ability to bake cakes, she could paint, and so the idea emerged.

Luckily, Gail has the help of professional chef, Something Yummy, who will be delivering some locally created cakes for the occasion, so she just needs to focus on the art.
Gail says:
“My kids say my cake baking is like eating “slug” but I’m thankful they think my art is ok.”
“I couldn’t have ever thought I would be able to put on an art exhibit like this in an incredible venue, with sponsorship from great local companies, but I have and I am so grateful. I am donating my work to these two charities, but I also hope it’s an opportunity to promote the Island, the amazing local businesses and our artist scene to visitors of Cowes.”
Justin Olesinski, of Olesinski’s Superyacht design, has said:
“We are delighted to host Gail Willows and support both her chosen charities, we are situated in the heart of Cowes and Gail has also got support from Mermaid Gin – we hope for a successful fundraising week.”
