Police are standing guard outside a property in Newport which has been cordoned off following an aggravated burglary, with a total of 4 men arrested.
Officers are currently situated on the doorstep of a maisonette on Furlongs, Pan following an incident at around 11:15 today.
Island Echo understands 2 men were seen to exit the property – 1 of which had a head injury and was bleeding profusely.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that 2 men were arrested in the local area a short while after, with enquiries subsequently leading officers to an address at The Lakes in Rookley where 2 further arrests were made.
Of the 4 men arrested, 2 were taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment to injuries on their heads.
A 41-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, affray, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Another 41-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and 4 instances of theft from a shop.
A 37-year-old man from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
They all remain in custody at this time.
A 34 year-old man from Ryde arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, and driving with an alcohol level above the limit remains in hospital at this time. His condition is described as stable.
Officers are maintaining a scene guard at both Furlongs and Rookley as investigations into the alleged assault progress.

Too be honest this crap is happening all over the
country, law and order in the UK is scarce thesedays.
Nowdays Police spend more time dealing with
demonstrations and guarding so called Elite persons
than tackling crime.
We need to go back to old school policing, but with
a shortage of Police it makes their job impossible.
I agree. Too many drugs on the Island and this is the root of much of the crime. Sadly it is a worldwide problem.
The Police are stretched but if more law abiding citizens passed on information on suspicious activity it would help them.
The more criminals they can bring to court the better for society.

and even though I was in my vehicle you could
smell Cannabis the length of Union Street
