Police have been involved in the pursuit of a car in Newport tonight (Saturday), which has involved an off-road adventure.
At just before 21:00 officers began pursuing what is believed to be a dark blue Ford Focus, possibly a high-powered ST model.
The chase soon led onto the roads surrounding HMP Isle of Wight before the suspect vehicle went off-road at Miller Close when faced with a dead end. The car crossed a grassed area and over the pavement back onto the main Cowes to Newport road.
According to a witness, the ‘dangerous’ driving almost caused a road traffic collision with other vehicles on the road. The fellow road user has described to Island Echo how the suspect vehicle and pursuing Police BMW X5 appeared from behind a bus stop before rejoining the carriageway – somewhat of a surprise for passing motorists.
It’s known the pursuit continued down the dual carriageway and off onto Fairlee Road, but it remains unclear if Police have managed to apprehend the wanted driver.
