UPDATED: Police officers and WightSAR, the Island’s volunteer search and rescue team, are understood to be searching for a middle-aged man who has threatened to harm himself in Cowes this evening (Tuesday).
Several Police units responded to the Cowes area at just before 17:30 and have now been joined by WightSAR and the National Police Air Service helicopter, which is conducting an aerial shoreline search for the male.
Hampshire Constabulary are seriously concerned about the man’s safety.
He is described as:
– Aged 30-40
– Wearing a red hat, cream trousers
– In a distressed and drunk state
UPDATE @ 19:06 – The NPAS helicopter from Bournemouth has carried out a shoreline search of Cowes and Gurnard, however has failed to locate the male. Investigations continue, however the helicopter has now been stood down.
UPDATE @ 20:00 – The search continues tonight, with a rendezvous point set up outside Cowes Police Station.
UPDATE @ 21:28 – Police have concluded their search and teams have been stood down, although further details are currently unavailable.
