The National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter has been scouring the West Wight this afternoon (Tuesday) in the search for a missing person. The helicopter travelled from its base at Redhill in Surrey and arrived in local airspace shortly after 16:15. From a height of around 1,000ft, the yellow and black helicopter has been focusing its search on the River Yar between Freshwater and Yarmouth. It has been confirmed that the activity is in connection with a missing person search, but no details such as an age, sex or location have been released. Island Echo understands that a local woman is missing. The NPAS helicopter has now stood down but boots on the ground from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary remain out and about, it is understood.
