The National Police Air Service helicopter is circling the skies above Ventnor this morning (Saturday). The Bournemouth-based asset is thought to be assisting in the search for a missing person – although Police are yet to issue an appeal for information. At around 20:30 last night, the helicopter re-routes from the Wilton area of Wiltshire to the Isle of Wight, circling the Shanklin and Bonchurch areas of the East Wight. It soon departed but returned to circle Luccombe, Bonchurch and Ventnor at just gone midnight. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has a strong present on the ground in and around Ventnor, with units searching the local area between Smuggler’s car park at Luccombe and Ventnor Botanic Garden, St Lawrence. It is unclear at this stage if the 2 searches are connected. UPDATE @ 01:15 – The helicopter has now moved off. It is unknown if their subject has been located.
