UPDATED: Multiple Police units, including the National Police Air Service helicopter have descended on the quiet village of Bonchurch near Ventnor this evening (Thursday).
Just 24 hours after a man was spotted with a gun in a hotel room in neighbouring Ventnor, the Island’s Police force – including the joint Armed/Roads Policing Unit – are back in the South Wight.
It’s currently unclear what’s sparked the response, which has led up to 6 Police vehicles and the Police helicopter to rush to the area.
Emergency services were seen heading into Ventnor and then Bonchurch at around 19:10.
UPDATE @ 20:54 – A white Audi convertible has been recovered from Shore Road car park, where officers have focused their search efforts tonight.
It is thought Police have been trying to locate the occupants of the luxury car, but it remains unknown as to what offences, if any, have been committed.
Police have now left the area.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment on the incident.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Police have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of the theft of the luxury car.
Island Echo understands the vehicle travelled across to the Island on Wednesday night, before being reported stolen at around 16:30 yesterday afternoon.
The man remains in custody.
