Police have cordoned off a residential street in Cowes tonight (Tuesday) as investigations get underway into what is understood to be a serious assault.
Officers were called to Arctic Road near the junction with South Road sometime after 21:00 following 999 calls reporting an unfolding incident in the street.
At least 1 person has been treated by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
Local residents tell Island Echo that a male has sustained facial injuries.
The scene has now been locked down as Hampshire Constabulary launch an investigation into the incident and take witness statements.
An update is expected tomorrow morning.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY @ 08:50 – It has been confirmed that a male has sustained head injuries.
Island Echo understands the individual was flown to Southampton General Hospital during the early hours of this morning.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to issue a statement.
