Fears that an elderly man had been drink driving led to Police being called to Military Road yesterday evening (Thursday). Officers were deployed to the scene near Chale at 18:12 when a concerned member of the public alerted Police to a suspected drink driver. Island Echo understand that the male – in his 70s – had crashed into a hedge and damaged the wing mirror of his car, before nearly colliding with another vehicle. The driver said to those present that he had consumed 2 glasses of Processco with his dinner. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the driver completed a roadside breath test, which returned a negative result. No arrests were made.
